ACTIVITIES

As well as holding monthly Group Meetings, we are also running other events during 2009, including special events to mark the 75th Anniversary of Diabetes UK.

SUNDAY 30/ MONDAY 31 AUGUST

We will be taking our Marquee to SHEFFIELD FAYRE , Norfolk Heritage Park. This is an event for all the family, with a horticultural marquee, lots of stalls, historical re-enactments etc.

The Diabetes UK Roadshow is coming to Sheffield on WEDNESDAY 4 and THURSDAY 5 AUGUST.

It will be in Barkers Pool. This is part of a tour visiting more than 100 locations across the UK.

SATURDAY 14 NOVEMBER Anniversary Ball at the Cutlers' Hall.

14 November is World Diabetes Day and this event will be the highlight of the 75th. Anniverary year for Diabetes UK in the north of England. Tickets are £55 each or £500 for a table of 10. Please get in touch if you know of any local businesses who would like to take a table.

SUPERMARKET COLLECTIONS will be held throughout the year. These are a valuable source of fund raising and we always need volunteers to help. Dates will be published in the Newsletter and on our website and announced at meetings.

BOOK SALES: We are raising money by selling second hand books. Any suitable titles will be put up for sale on the Internet via Amazon. We also hold regular booksales at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and at local events. Please clear out your attic, check your book shelves for anything you no longer need and ask your friends, family and work colleagues to do the same. You can bring books etc. along to any of our meetings, or you can arrange to have them collected from you by phoning Glynis: 0114 2751266.

We also take DVD's,  CD's and videos
 

We collect USED STAMPS.  Please bring these along to meetings or other events.

We collect TOMBOLA and RAFFLE PRIZES throughout the year. Another way we raise funds is by running tombolas at events (Walk the Extra Mile, local fairs etc)  We also hold a raffle at each monthly meeting to help cover the running costs of the Group. If you have any new unwanted items we could use as prizes, please bring them to a meeting or contact us.

DIABETES FOR BEGINNERS

We run a scheme whereby anyone in Sheffield newly diagnosed with diabetes can be sent a free copy of the publication "Diabetes for Beginners" (either Type 1 or Type 2). This is done via a request from the individual's G.P. or Practice Nurse.

Diabetes UK Northern & Yorkshire Region are running various events throughout the year, including special 75th anniversary events. For details visit the regional section of the Diabetes UK website.
